Welding wire is used for joining two metals together by melting by welding method. Carbon dioxide or mixed gas is used additionally to cut off the contact with the air and provide the arc. This is called gas metal arc welding. This practical invention is the most basic form of welding electrode rod in use today. It is specified as Stick Welding electrode in the literature. Electrodes to be used also differ according to the type of metals.
